The University of Canberra is set in a unique environment. The Campus is a haven of clean air, tall trees and native vegetation, with many different birds, including white cockatoos, and resident kangaroos, yet it’s handy to popular entertainment and shopping venues including Westfield Shoppingtown in nearby Belconnen, and the Canberra Centre in Civic, the City Centre. Academic standards are high and career results are excellent. The university has produced over sixty thousand graduates. Many now occupy senior positions in the professions, the corporate world and the public service of Australia and several other countries. Others have become prominent writers, journalists, performers and sports men and women. The University prides itself on professionally preparing students for professional life. There are more than nine thousand full time students, working towards undergraduate Bachelors Degrees and Diplomas, and Graduate Certificates, Diplomas, Masters degrees or Doctorates. Students are attracted to the University from the ACT and surrounding areas, from every state in Australia and from some 80 countries around the world. 1100 students live on campus and this number will increase in future years. Balance study with relaxation![]() Concentrated study needs to be balanced by periods of relaxation and the campus cafes are great places for students to get together. There are clubs and societies catering to a wide range of interests, including competitive teams covering most major sports and the University of Canberra Union Sports and Fitness Centre is more than a gymnasium. Along with classes, cardio exercise and weights, it offers tennis, squash and indoor basketball courts and sits adjacent to two sports grounds. Throughout the year many bands and theatre shows visit the campus to provide entertainment and every Wednesday is Market Day – a chance to check out colourful stalls, find a bargain and catch up with friends.
