Your study schedule will vary depending on your course, study level, and whether you study full-time or part-time. To give you the ultimate flexibility, you can change to part-time or full-time study at any point during your course.
A common question students ask is if it’s possible to work full-time and study full-time. The answer is yes, but you’ll need to be organised and ensure your workplace is flexible regarding exam periods and in-person placement requirements (depending on your course).
Most of our online study options are designed to accommodate full-time workers and those who prefer a flexible study schedule with self-paced learning options and on-demand lectures.
Online study at the University of Canberra will include recorded lectures, live webinars and online discussions. You will have assignments, readings, and group projects with set deadlines, allowing you to manage your time flexibly.
It’s worth noting that your study time will differ from your course completion date, as you’ll have breaks between semesters.
If you have relevant work experience or another qualification, you may be eligible to receive credit towards your online degree or certificate. This can reduce the number of units you need to study, saving you time and money.
Even if you haven’t finished your other course, credit transfer can still be applied for the units you have completed.
Credit transfer applies to units completed at other recognised institutions like colleges, universities, CIT or TAFE.
The duration of an online course at the University of Canberra varies depending on what you choose to study.
Most online postgraduate certificates last one year, including study breaks in between. This means your studying time will be 8 months (split over 2 semesters) for a 12-month certificate.
Online undergraduate degrees take three to four years to complete full-time, while online postgraduate degrees can take one to two years full-time. Part-time options are also available, which will extend the duration.
You may also have the option to study over our Winter Term, which will speed up your completion date.
There are a few different costs to consider when studying online at UC.
Many of our courses are offered with Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP), a subsidy provided by the Australian Government that you don’t need to pay back (terms and conditions apply).
For other cost information, including your Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP loan options, view our fees and costs.
You may also be eligible for a UC Scholarship.
