The perfect commerce and law combination
Looking for a challenging career in the legal or financial sector? Then the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws double degree is the perfect way to give you the knowledge and skills to enter the public sector as a manager or confidently take on the world of international business.
In this course you will study a wide range of commerce related subjects such as economics, accounting and information systems – as well as multiple legal electives including corporations law, contract law, property and criminal law.
No matter what study pathway you choose, this course will help you develop your advanced legal research and writing skills, which will open a wealth of career opportunities in the public or private sector, both locally and overseas.
Successful completion of this double degree will also enable you to be eligible for a host of professional accreditations including CPA Australia, CAANZ and the Financial Services Institute of Australia. The course is also recognised by the Supreme Courts of the ACT and NSW.
Combine a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws at UC and you will:

There are currently no formal credit transfer arrangements for entry to this course. Any previous study or work experience will only be considered as part of the application process in accordance with current course rules and university policy.

Note:
- From 2022 unit 11276 Litigation & Dispute Processing has been replaced by the equivalent unit 11783 Civil Procedure. Students who have already passed 11276 cannot enrol in 11783.

- From 2022 unit 11283 Equity Law has been replaced by the equivalent unit 11785 Equity and Trusts Law. Students who have passed 11283 cannot enrol in 11785.

- From 2024: Units 11253, 11268, 11380 have been replaced with new BGL Internship units 12046, 12047 and 12048.

- 1. Honours students must select 11272 Law and Justice Research Project and 11289 Law Honours.
- 2. Unit 11293 Taxation Law is no longer offered. Students who completed this unit before Semester 2 2021 may still count it towards their Law electives.
- 3. Unit 11261 Advanced Criminal Justice is no longer offered.
- 4. From 2022 unit 11266 Human Rights in Context has been replaced by the equivalent unit 11784 Human Right Law. Students who have passed 11266 cannot enrol in unit 11784.
- For students who commenced SCB101 prior to 2022, the previous Category B (Breadth) and Category C (Depth) requirements have been combined.
- Students must complete 24 credit points for the Law Elective major (SM0033). Of these, a minimum of 3 credit points and a maximum of 12 credit points must be from the Work Integrated Learning group.
Note:
- - From 2024, units 10158, 10236, 11166, 11167 and 11168 have been replaced with new BGL Internship units.
- 1. Students must pass a minimum of 1 unit from Part A. Two units may be chosen from Part A or one from Part A and one from Part B.
- 2. Students who undertook two units listed in the current Part B section prior to 2024 can still count the units towards their course. Students from 2024 need to select at least 1 unit from Part A.
- 3. Unit 11572 Accounting Internship Preparation is only available to students undertaking an Accounting major.
- Credit Points: Students who want to do more than 6 credit points from this list may count them towards Open Electives.
- International Exchange: Students may also choose to undertake units at an international institution, subject to approval by the Program Director.
Note:
- Unit 11232 Credit Analysis and Lending has been closed. From 2024 students should enrol into 12089 Credit Analysis and Lending.
- Please note that if a student wishes to complete the 24cp major, they must select two of the Level 3 offerings in the restricted choice options from the Core Major in Commerce and Accounting (CM0005).
- 1. Students undertaking the 24cp major are NOT eligible for CAANZ or CPA Australia accreditation, unless they are enrolled in and complete MGSC01 Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws.
- 2. Students in MGSC01 Bachelor of Commerce/ Bachelor of Laws must also complete unit 11293 Taxation Law.
- 3. Students seeking CAANZ and CPA Australia accreditation must complete the 33cp major.
- 4. Completion of the 39cp major will enable students to meet the educational requirements of the Tax Practitioners Board in addition to that of CPA and CAANZ.
- The award name for the Commerce part of this double degree is determined by choice of major. E.g. Completion of the Spclst Major in Accounting leads to the award 'Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting)'.
