UC OPEN DAY FEST
Sat 20 Sept, 9am - 3pm
Life is great in Canberra. In fact, our humble city was recently named number one in the world for quality of life — and it’s not hard to see why!
Not only does it feature amazing educational institutions, a gorgeous natural environment and thriving urban scenes, Canberra is also Australia’s safest city. With low crime rates and a warm and welcoming community, our country’s capital is the perfect destination for your international study journey.
What’s more, the University of Canberra (UC) is committed to student safety. Read on to discover some of the things we do to make sure you have a great student experience.
One of the most important ways UC supports our students is by fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful environment. We believe that everybody belongs in our community, and we work hard to make sure UC is a place for people of any sexuality, gender, religion, race or ability.
Throughout the year, we celebrate initiatives such as R U OK Day, Harmony Day and Wear it Purple Day. Plus, we have amazing on-campus organisations like the UC Pride Alliance and Rainbow UC. Finally, you can get involved and meet like-minded students in our many clubs and societies, which include many cultural and religious groups.
And, of course, don’t forget about our amazing UC events! From free breakfasts to parties, counselling sessions, and even social sports, such as badminton, volleyball and pickleball, there’s really something for everyone.
Keeping you safe also means ensuring you’re protected when you’re on campus. The UC Bruce security team is available 24 hours a day, so in the unlikely event you need help, it’s always on hand.
Not only does this amazing team regularly patrol the campus, but they also offer a chaperone service, where they’ll accompany you to your vehicle or nearest bus stop. You can contact the team anytime on 6201 2222.
At UC, safety also means accessibility for everyone. We’re proud to offer a range of accessible facilities across our campus, including accessible bathrooms, parking and lifts.
If you’re living with a disability or an ongoing health condition that’s impacting your educational experience, we can work with you to make reasonable accommodations to your course and provide you with specialised support, such as interpreters, electronic learning materials, text-to-speech programs and more.
If you’re sick or injured, UC is here for you. Our on-campus medical and counselling clinic makes it easy to see a doctor whenever you need. Plus, you can even access telehealth appointments, so no need to drag yourself out of bed if you’re feeling unwell.
You can contact the centre directly on 6201 2351, fill in the contact form for a callback or make an appointment online easily with HotDoc.
Of course, if you’re in a medical emergency, call triple zero (000) right away.
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. That’s why UC offers a range of support services that you can rely on if you’re going through a tough time.
Our student wellbeing team is a great first port of call, and can help you find support for housing, homesickness, mental health and more. You can also get help with financial challenges, finding a job and navigating international student life.
