Flexible microcredentials for Salvation Army workers and volunteers

The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614 has served the community for more than a decade. As demand grows and new service hubs emerge, building a skilled, confident and sustainable workforce has never been more important.

The Salvation Army and the University of Canberra have partnered to deliver tailored educational opportunities that strengthen and sustain the Project 614 workforce. Co‑designed with Salvation Army employees, the microcredentials blend academic expertise with real‑world practice drawn directly from Project 614.

These microcredentials are currently only available to approved staff and volunteers involved with The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614.

What are microcredentials?

A microcredential is a short course for which you can receive credit toward a formal qualification.

This program is made up of six stackable microcredentials, designed to be completed one at a time. You may complete one or more microcredentials, or complete all six to earn the Professional Certificate in Foundations for Working and Volunteering in Community Organisations.

Each microcredential is fully online, lasts 7 weeks and is comprised of 50 hours of study in that period.

What will I learn?

You will develop practical skills that can be applied immediately in your role, including:

  • Understanding Project 614’s history, culture and values
  • Greater confidence and resilience in frontline practice
  • Stronger communication and mediation skills
  • Ability to recognise and respond to mental health needs
  • Practical approaches to trauma‑informed care
  • Ethical and culturally responsive decision‑making
