We're thrilled to announce that our next book club selection is Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton.
Five years ago, Mira Bunting founded a guerrilla gardening group: Birnam Wood. An undeclared, unregulated, sometimes-criminal, sometimes-philanthropic gathering of friends, this activist collective plants crops wherever no one will notice: on the sides of roads, in forgotten parks, and neglected backyards.
A gripping psychological thriller from the Booker Prize-winning author of The Luminaries, Birnam Wood is Shakespearean in its wit, drama, and immersion in character. A brilliantly constructed consideration of intentions, actions, and consequences, it is an unflinching examination of the human impulse to ensure our own survival.
The book is available from a variety of stores, both online and in-store:
The book club connects through a private online forum where members can discuss the current book and network with each other. The group will spend approximately two months on each book, allowing you plenty of time to read.
The club is managed by PBC Guru, an organisation that arranges professional book clubs for companies, libraries, and alumni associations. They will be moderating the UC Alumni book club to ensure the program is a great experience for all involved. There is no cost to participate – you just have to get a copy of the book to enjoy. If you have any questions, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions or email the team at PBC Guru.
