All Early Childhood Education students must complete the ACT Government “Keeping Children and Young People Safe” training before commencing placement.

Who must complete this training?

This training is mandatory for students who:

  • Are undertaking placement in the ACT, and
  • Will work or volunteer with children or young people, and
  • Are placed in government or non‑government organisations that provide services to children, young people, or families.

Why this training is required

  • The training ensures compliance with ACT child safety requirements.
  • You cannot commence placement without evidence of completion.

The training is delivered via HRIMS Learning, the ACT Government’s online learning system.

How to complete the training

Step 1: Request access to the course

  • Complete the ACT Government mandatory training portal form.
  • When prompted, request the course:
    “Keeping Children and Young People Safe – E‑Learn”
  • Select University of Canberra as your Organisation Name.

Step 2: Activate your HRIMS account

  • You will receive an email invitation to set up your HRIMS Learning account.
  • This may take 3–5 business days.
  • Check your junk/spam folder, as the email sometimes filters there.

Step 3: Set up your access

  • Follow the instructions in the email to create your password and log‑in details.

Step 4: Complete the training

  • Log in to HRIMS Learning.
  • Complete the Keeping Children and Young People Safe -ELearn course.

After you finish the training

  • You will receive a certificate of completion.
  • Upload the certificate to InPlace as evidence of compliance.
  • Keep a copy and share it with your placement organisation if requested.

 Important: Students who do not upload their certificate to InPlace will not be permitted to commence placement.
