UC and industry experts to speak at Technology Panel Industry event

Suzanne Lazaroo

23 February 2021: Get onto the inside track for some of the fastest-evolving speciality areas in technology, as industry and faculty experts share experiences and insights at the Technology Panel Industry event at the University of Canberra.

Coming up on Wednesday 24 February, the event is being organised by the UC Supporting Women in STEM (UCSWIS) society, together with the UC Engineering Society and Student Developer Organisation (SUDO).

“We have some really amazing panelists, each of whom will speak on the future of their fields, and career pathways, all grounded in their considerable industry experiences,” said UCSWIS president Eloise Robertson.

“It’s about learning from their experiences and career journeys, and each speaker will talk about how they empower women in each of their own fields.”

Antonia Marzulli, Partner at IBM Cloud Computing Innovation, will speak about the powerful resources available in the world of cloud computing.

The University’s own PhD candidate David Hinwood will expound on the interdisciplinary opportunities to be found in the robotics field.

Amy Ormrod, General Manager, Cyber at Terra Schwartz will lift the veil on cyber security – a particularly relevant issue as more companies and organisations shift their operations into the virtual sphere.

And data scientist Harshit Trivedi will share the transformative power of data science across all sectors.

“The event will provide a great way to gain understanding into the featured fields themselves, and how they work together – so students can explore their own possibilities,” Ms Robertson said.

She added that the event would also emphasise ‘soft skills’ like leadership and communications, rather than just technical skills.

“It will also be an amazing opportunity to network with these experts and build relationships. Gaining exposure to industry professionals is a great way to grow,” Ms Robertson said.

After the panelist discussion, organisers will open the floor for discussions, and refreshments will be served during the networking session.

This event is also a chance to find out more about the student-led societies organising the event, or to sign up for a membership.

The Technology Panel Industry event will be held in a COVIDSafe manner at 12B50, or participants can attend virtually via Teams.
