Types of Internships
The aim of all Industry Internships is for PhD Candidates to complete a real-world research project (or part of) and provide a solution to the Industry Partner. Engaging in the internship supports candidate to build networks, develop and demonstrate research and transferable skills for better post PhD employability.
Note: It is encouraged and a requirement of co-funded internships that and "Intent to Intern" is signed by all parties within the first 18 months of candidature. All internship can be undertaken at any time up until thesis submission.

## Indsutry Intership element must be identified in PhD Project Contract Agreement, please discuss with Graduate Research.
Requirements and recommendations:
- Candidate must remain enrolled for the full duration of Internship so candidate is covered by the University’s insurance
- An internship is part of candidature so no extra time will be given
- Engage with potential Industry Partner early in candidature (first year)
- Agree to internship within first 18 months of candidature (requirement for co-finding)
- Internship can be completed anytime during candidature

- Designing technology & software
- Machine learning
- Environmental modelling & research
- Research data analysis
- Developing methods, costs & limitations
- Communication engagement & strategy
- Conduct evidence-based research & development
- Design thinking development/support
- Identify and solve real industry problems with recommendations to improve or develop solutions
- Test prototypes, develop or improve product or service design
- Collect data, develop protocols, test to market, & identify market segments
Co-Funding
Research portfolio supported Internships are an excellent option for NFP's, start ups, private enterprise and community organizations who do not necessarily have the funding to support research internships.
- First in first dressed (funding for aprox 15 internships)
- Min 3 months FTE (60 days)
- Industry partner must be engaged within the first 18 months of candidature (Intent to Intern signed)
- 3k p/m stipend to candidate (1k UC / 2k Industry partner)]
