About the program

EnhanceLife-PD Enhancing life with Parkinson's disease by developing an exercise habit.

The program aims to enable people with Parkinson's disease to start and continue exercising over the long term by increasing their exercise self-management skills. To maximise the benefits of this online program, it is recommended that people with Parkinson's disease work with a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist who can provide health coaching and advice as they complete the modules.

The content is co-designed by people with Parkinson's disease and physiotherapists with clinical and academic expertise in exercise for people with Parkinson's disease.

The modules are not intended to replace individual health professional care. If you have any concerns or questions about what you can safely do, you should seek professional advice from your doctor, physiotherapist or other health professional with expertise in exercise prescription.

Program modules

Module 1: Exercise - what is it and why is it important?

This module will define and explain why exercise and physical activity are important for someone with Parkinson’s disease. “Exercise is your friend, inactivity is the enemy”.

Module 2: Getting started

This module will assist you in identifying the right exercise for you. It will outline the key considerations to exercise safely. “Have a goal, have a plan, have a go”.

Module 3: Maintaining and sustaining exercise

This module will assist you to identify barriers to long term exercise and develop strategies to over come them. It will outline when and where to seek help. "If plan A doesn't work, don't stress, be resilient and make a change".

Module 4: Factoring in your fall risk

This module will assist you in determining your risk of falling over in the next six months. It will help you understand how to reduce your fall risk.

Module 5: Exercise health professionals

This module is designed to guide exercise health professionals in supporting their clients with Parkinson’s disease in using this program.
