The Owl College is a collaboration between the University of Canberra Faculty of Arts and Design and secondary students in Canberra and the capital region.
Over two face-to-face workshops, you will be supported to publish an article at The Owl, the student publication of the Journalism and Sports Media programs.
After being introduced to the basic principles of journalism and online publishing, you will pitch and produce a multimedia piece centred around a newsworthy interview and creative photographs taken with a smartphone.
Upon completion, you will have an understanding of basic journalism practice, including research, production, and editorial workflows.
What you’ll learn/produce:
Open to all students in Years 10, 11 & 12.
Scott is a Lecturer in Communication and Media at the University of Canberra and the Discipline Lead in Journalism. In 2014, after working in a range of television newsrooms in Australia and overseas, he published the book ’18 Days: Al Jazeera English and the Egyptian Revolution’. Between 2014 and 2021, Scott was the Managing Director of Global Journalism Exchange which facilitated journalism study tours between Australia and the Middle East-North Africa region.
