Take the lead in enhancing the performance of athletes or high-performance personnel
The Master of Applied Clinical Epidemiology (MACE), offered in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) as an industry partner, prepares graduates for a career as a performance health management specialist within Australia and internationally.
The course has been co-designed with Australia's leading practitioners in the area of performance health implementation program development to respond to an emerging professional development priority.
The course integrates practical workplace embedded training and theoretical issues, including the skills necessary for the implementation of proactive performance health in individuals and targeted populations, biostatistics, applied epidemiology, health implementation, research and leadership.
It prepares students for their future work as performance health management specialists at the interface of theory, research and practice.
Graduates will have specialised knowledge for professional practice in health implementation and skills for evaluation of research in optimising human performance health.
Study a Master of Applied Clinical Epidemiology (Sport) and you will:
- Demonstrate the use of advanced knowledge for independent and autonomous practice in applied epidemiology and health program implementation in sport
- Demonstrate the professional attributes necessary for independent and autonomous practice in applied epidemiology in sport
- Use expert judgement and skills to critique, synthesise, undertake research and apply evidence from research and science to inform applied epidemiology in sport and the workplace
- Demonstrate advanced skills in inter-professional engagement in a sport environment and its diverse cultural and social setting
Course Specific Information
Applied project
As part of the degree, you’ll be required to undertake a project in your sport/workplace across the study period to ensure immediate translation to your work environment.
AIS-based Intensives
Intensive units will deliver specialist learning at the AIS over a one-week period each semester.
Alternative Exit Awards
You may choose to complete a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma and exit this course early depending on units completed. A Bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline. For example, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Clinical Exercise Physiology.
A minimum of three years' FTE work experience in a health-related field.
A letter of support from a representative of the workplace, indicating the role of the applicant within the workplace, and the potential for the course to be applied within the workplace.
Additional admission requirements
Industry practice placements are an essential component of the program and are assessed. Students may be required to complete these industry practice placements outside of teaching time. Prior to commencing industry practice, all students need to present a complete immunisation schedule, and First Aid certificates including CPR, as a requirement of the relevant state or territory health departments. All students are required to undergo a 'working with vulnerable people' check and an Australian Federal Police Record Check.
