15 December 2014: University of Canberra design and landscape architecture student Catherine Grace was recently awarded gold for her balcony garden at the Australian Garden Show in Sydney.
Ms Grace said she was "absolutely ecstatic" when she found out she had won a gold medal for her garden design.
"I'm so proud of my wonderful team who helped bring my design to life; they were all amazing," she said.
The Balcony Gardens category is based on apartment living sizes of approximately 2m x 5m. Her entry, 'Effortless Balance', offered an edible plant wall as part of her commitment to sustainable living. Ms Grace said she wanted to show how important balance is in a garden, especially in small spaces.

Ms Grace recently completed a three-month scholarship in the UK where she took part in the building process of the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show gardens.
In addition, she had the chance to attend the Singapore Garden Festival, where she was able to work with designers from around the world.
"It was a great way to see a different side of horticulture through different cultures," she said.
It was from her travels that she found the inspiration for her award-winning garden design.
"I drew inspiration from all these diverse places. From the Chelsea Flower Show and the use of topiaries for bold structures and the swifts of colour from our garden tour through the UK, to the Singapore Garden Festivals and their unique way of adding interest and excitement to a garden," she said.
