Professor Maree Meredith

Professor Maree Meredith

After working in tourism and the aid sector Maree spent five years researching the role of art centres in supporting the health and wellbeing of Indigenous people in remote communities, before moving into higher education leadership roles.

A Bidjara woman, born and raised in Queensland, Maree has lived, studied and worked in Canberra on three occasions, in between roles in central and northern Australia and has many friends and connections in the ACT.

Maree was appointed Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous Leadership in 2023, with responsibility to shape and nurture the connections and impact UC has for Indigenous people across the nation.

“We are delivering an outside-in strategy – listening and responding to the priorities of community as we connect with allies and partners to help drive positive change,” Maree says.

“We are determined to connect with Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners who respect and value Indigenous leadership, so that we can achieve stronger outcomes for people from all walks of life through the opportunity to connect with Indigenous people, knowledge and culture.”
