Nursing Practice 1 PG (11657.1)

Nursing Practice 1 (NP1) is the introductory clinical unit that incorporates assessments which prepare students for professional registration as well as enhancing student understanding of the registered nurse as a professional, legal accountability, reflection in practice, clinical reasoning, and teamwork. This unit has a focus on integumentary, musculoskeletal, gastro-intestinal and respiratory systems, and recognition of vulnerable and at-risk groups and integrates anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacological knowledge into an understanding of nursing practice.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1.Demonstrates safety of self and others in relation to communicating for safety, risk assessment, infection prevention and control, and medication safety;
2. Demonstrates foundational knowledge through an accurate structured clinical assessment, by gathering holistic health data, and applying clinical reasoning to evaluate individual patient data across the lifespan, and bioscience concepts to inform nursing actions/care;
3. Reflect on the complexity of cultural diversity and model safe inclusive health care, through the application of a person-centred approach and communication approaches for people with varied health literacy; and
4. Demonstrates expected level of understanding and clinical performance commensurate with the scope of practice for Nursing Practice 1.
