Research

The University of Canberra Research Institute for Sport and Exercise is a research and innovation institute bringing together staff from a wide variety of academic disciplines around the theme of sport and exercise.

The Institute supports the University's sporting aspirations through strategic planning and leadership, the co-ordination of sport-related research, consultancy across its faculties and the development of external partnerships.

UC RISE

Inclusive sport

UC Sport aims to create an inclusive and social environment for all students to feel comfortable and safe to engage in sport. By developing programs that promote participation and break down barriers, we are harnessing the power of sport for social justice, equality, integrity, and wellbeing.

Over the next four years, UC Sport will be rolling out activities to increase the number of on-campus opportunities, aiming to address gaps in participation from the following demographics.

Pride in sport

Pride in sport

Acknowledging the barriers and discrimination often faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, UC Sport endeavours to better understand and include our queer identifying students, through consultation, internal review and tailored programs to ensure students feel safe in physical activity settings.

Indigenous sports at UC

First nations

Through the guidance and support of the Ngunnawal Centre, UC Sport is creating programs for First Nations Peoples in an inclusive, safe and community-oriented environment. It is an important step in nurturing relationships and building confidence in students to participate in broader physical activity activations on campus.

Women in sport

Women in sport

From 2023, female identifying students from non-sporting backgrounds will be offered a multitude of social sport and gym programs. UC Sport aims to deliver activities and classes that prioritise connection and education around health and fitness, while empowering females to be confident in sport.

International students

International students

Sport has the power to bring people together and UC Sport wants to ensure the students who have arrived from all around the world, can feel at home at UC. From 2023, we will be offering social sporting opportunities to connect domestic and international students on campus.

Disability and ongoing health conditions

Disability and ongoing health conditions

We want everyone to cultivate the confidence and skills they need to succeed. The UC Sport office aims to seek a better understanding on how we can create programs for those living with disability or an ongoing health condition through internal review and consultation.
