Create exceptional outdoor spaces
Landscape architecture involves the planning and design of outdoor areas in both public and private settings, such as parks, gardens, campuses, commercial centres and waterfront developments. By studying at UC you’ll examine the complexities of urban and regional spaces across all layers of the landscape, while investigating topical issues in landscape architecture theory and practice. The rich and culturally diverse ways in which landscapes are understood will be explored, especially from Indigenous perspectives.
This dynamic and innovative course combines research-led teaching with practical learning including design studio activities, seminars, tutorials and field trips. At the conclusion of your course, you can choose to either forge an immediate career in the industry, or enrol in a one-year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours).
Study a Bachelor of the Built Environment (Landscape Architecture) at UC and you will:
- learn to read, interpret and analyse the landscape and built environment across a range of scales – from the suburban to the regional
- develop and evaluate responses to issues that contextualise the Australian landscape and the built environment
- draw on cultural, historical and theoretical frameworks to support your ideas
- visually and verbally evaluate a range of design solutions
- utilise digital technologies in a range of professional environments.
Work Integrated Learning
A feature of this course includes engaging with leading design professionals and industry practitioners to gain valuable real-world landscape architecture experience through the delivery of a series of ‘live’ projects. Internships at local, national and international landscape architecture and urban design firms are encouraged, as well as with local councils and government departments.

There are currently no formal credit transfer arrangements for entry to this course. Any previous study or work experience will only be considered as part of the application process in accordance with current course rules and university policy. Credit is not permitted towards completion of a graduate certificate.

- - From 2020 unit 11624 BE Digital Design Techniques 01: Fundamentals has replaced unit 11013 Pixels & Polygons. Students who have not already passed 11013 must complete 11624.
- - Bruce Campus: From 2022 unit 11834 Prof Prac (Adv Industry Studios) has replaced unit 11574 Prof Prac: WIL Studio 3. Students who have not already passed 11018 or 11574 must complete 11834.
- - South Bank Campus: Students are still required to complete unit 11018 Professional Practice 2.
- - Bruce Campus: From 2022 unit 11831 Prof Prac (Industry Studios) has replaced 11017 Professional Practice 1 at Bruce Campus. Students who have not already passed 11017 must complete 11831.
- - South Bank Campus: Students are still required to complete unit 11017 Professional Practice 1.
