"Steph's athleticism, ability to defend and rebound, coupled with her work ethic and desire to be the best she can be, make her the perfect fit for the University of Canberra Capitals," coach Carrie Graf said.

Talbot helped Australia's under-19 team to a bronze medal at last year's world championships and was named on the tournament's All Star Five team.

The 19-year-old was drafted by the Women's National Basketball Association, better known as the WNBA, at pick 33 by the Phoenix Mercury, and has also been named in the Australian Opals extended squad for the 2014 FIBA World Championships in Turkey later this year.
