Stephen Moore

Born in Sydney, Stephen Moore is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra's Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Maths.

After completing high school at St Andrews Cathedral School in Sydney, Stephen attended Macquarie University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Economics with Honours. Stephen has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Econometrics at the Australian National University.

Stephen is the Chief Information Officer at the Department of Employment based in Canberra, a department he has work at since 1993. In this role Stephen leads the Information Technology organisation for the department. Currently this involves heading the implementation of a very significant IT application set to support the move from Job Services Australia to the new jobactive service. In September 2014 Stephen oversaw the completion of the migration of a large (50,000+ function points) application from mainframe to wintel technology.

Stephen credits helping to design the new outsourced employment services arrangements that led to the creation of the Job Network in 1998 as his greatest professional career achievement to date.
Currently Stephen was first made an Honorary Appointee of the University in 2010 with the then Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering. Since this time Stephen has made a significant contribution to the University both in providing guest lectures to students on IT project management, IT governance and business intelligence, and working with University staff on a number of research projects.

Stephen's main area of research interest is how IT systems are developed to co-create value, an area in which he has been published and been awarded numerous grants. Among these research projects include collaborating with Professor John Campbell on an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant on using IT in outsourced public sector service delivery to drive strategic and operational alignment, and jointly being awarded first place for the best paper at the Australian Conference on Information Systems in 2011.

In addition to teaching and research, through his Honorary Appointment Stephen supports University of Canberra students undertaking Work Integrated Learning at the Department of Employment.
