Areas of Teaching

  • Laura is teaching in communication and international studies.  She has enjoyed teaching conversation, reading, writing, grammar, phonetics and culture, as well as intercultural communication and translation in Spanish and English at universities in Colombia and Australia.   

Research Interests

  • Laura’s research interests include critical discourse studies, gender and women’s studies, media studies, intercultural communication, and Hispanic studies.   Her PhD focused on ideology and discourse legitimating wife abuse and street harassment in Colombian newspaper internet forums.  Currently she is working on a project about mediatised social representations of birth.
