Working with a research supervisor, the student will identify a suitable research question (or set of questions) and construct a research proposal which includes a literature review, an outline of the research methodology to be employed, and will learn how to apply for ethics approval for a research project.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically review the research literature relevant to their research;
2. Identify suitable questions to be addressed in their thesis;
3. Develop a research methodology for addressing the identified research questions; and
4. Demonstrate awareness of ethical issues in research and ethics clearance processes.

Required texts

A reading list relevant to the student's thesis topic will be developed by the student in consultation with their supervisor. An additional list of recommended readings related to the research process will be provided on Canvas.
