PrerequisitesSuccessful completion of 24 credit points at a credit average from any coursework Masters degree offered by the Faculty of Business and Government. Students will be required to undertake a work placement program as approved by the unit convener.

There are no required textbooks for this unit. However, students are expected to research widely in various journals, newspapers, online and related career texts to assist with your assessment and preparation for the world of work. Theories that you have learnt throughout your degree or researched online or in scholarly journals should be revisited and incorporated into your major research report.

Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
All assessment items are to be submitted to Assignment Drop boxes in CANVAS. You should plan and prepare these items while undertaking your internship.
For approved late submissions due to the late start or finish of your internship:
Research Report Part A – 2 weeks after the commencement of your placement.
All other required assessments – 2 weeks after the completion of your placement.
In case the Canvas site is no longer accessible after the conclusion of the semester, please email them directly to the unit convener.
Specific details for each assessment item, due dates, drop boxes and marking rubrics are also available on the CANVAS website.
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
It is essential that you make it your habit to check the unit's CANVAS site for workshop dates, times and information - these will be updated regularly.
Your Unit Convener/s and Careers UC source a range of opportunities with local organisations, which are advertised on CareerHub, the university’s online careers notice board. Students are also encouraged to find their own internship, with an organisation of interest to their future career.
Careers UC services are available to assist students with all aspects of sourcing and applying for internships. The best way to access this is via their daily drop-in sessions.

Careers UC drop-in session is available for any concerns or assistance required in obtaining an internship.
Drop-in times are-
Monday - 10 AM - 12 PM
Tuesday - 11 AM - 1 PM
Wednesday - 11 AM - 1 PM
Thursday - 2 - 4 PM
Friday - 10 AM - 12 PM
90 hours of work placement together with the submission of all assessment items.
Participation in all learning activities both in the field and off campus (including workshops) is highly recommended for the successful completion of this unit.
At least one week before the first day at your placement each student must complete the "InPlace" software programme which can be found on the Canvas or UC website where you will submit all details of your placement including the business name; supervisor's name, addresses, email address, dates of internship etc BEFORE your Internship commences. When approved by the unit convener an email will be sent to both you and your supervisor indicating confirmation. Further details on how to use InPlace will be given during the first virtual workshop. You will also be required to complete a student contract and liaise with your Supervisor for an Employer contract. This will also be discussed during the first virtual workshop. Should you have any difficulties please email your Unit Convener directly.
Required IT skills
You are assumed to have adequate skills in the use of word processing and spreadsheet programs, Internet browsers and search engines. If you feel you do not have adequate skills, please discuss the matter with the Unit Convener.
No additional costs beyond your travel, accommodation expenses, a police check (if required - currently approximately cost approximately $29) together with your normal unit enrolment fee are anticipated. If you are working with children you may also require a current working with children approval certificate (currently these are free for unpaid internship positions). If you require this certificate and/or a Police Check then steps involved on how to obtain these certificates can be found at www.canberra.edu.au/placement
Work placement, internships or practicums
As this unit involves a work integrated learning placement so students must adhere to University policy during WIL activities, including the Student Conduct Rules 2018, the WIL Policy and WIL Procedure, and the Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedure.
AND in addition:
1. This unit has pre-placement requirements (e.g. Working with Vulnerable People registration, immunisation/s). All interns must also complete the Pre-Place modules and achieve a "Badge" indicating their completion prior to commencement of your Placement. You can self-enrol in this Pre-Place module through the UC Learn site here or by using this link or copying the below address into your browser:

Client/patient confidentiality must always be maintained, including for assessment items such as reports or essays. Should you experience any unprofessional behaviour during your internship please let your unit convener know as soon as possible. The professional nature of this unit also requires 100% participation at all learning activities (virtual workshops, practicals etc. if scheduled – see section 3) for the successful completion of this unit (also see section 6c). If such requirements cannot be satisfied (e.g. timetable clash), it is recommended that you meet with your Course Convener to schedule this unit for a future semester.

We realise that this method of undertaking an internship could be challenging due to COVID-19 so it is imperative that you make regular contact with your Unit Convener.
