Public Health Practice PG (12120.1)

This unit involves placement which will give students the opportunity to reflect, problem solve and collaborate in real life public health settings with a host of partners including governmental and non- governmental organisations, peak bodies etc. Students will apply the knowledge and skills they have learnt through their study during the previous semesters to the practice of public health. Placement of students will carried out in a wide variety of public health environments, including but not limited to public, private, or community settings both in Australia and internationally. Students will be able to utilise their placement and exposure to real life public health challenges to develop their craft of independent public health practice, through critical reflection, application of theoretical knowledge to finding solutions and collaborate with various stake holders while still under close supervision.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply creative problem solving to practice and/or real-world settings;
2. Reflect critically on personal and professional experience to underpin life-long learning and ethical practice;
3. Apply specialised skills and methodologies in public health contexts; and
4. Collaborate respectfully and effectively with diverse partners, including First Nation¿s and LMIC settings.

Prerequisites

Must have passed 12 credit points within the Master of Public Health (Extended).
