Learning outcomes
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Apply relevant knowledge and skills across a range of health care environments to build towards autonomy for safe and effective practice in exercise physiology services;
2. Apply respectful professional practice that aligns with the requirements of the University Student Code of Conduct and the specific placement environment, and abides by the ESSA Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Practice and other governing legislation and policies that apply;
3. Assemble professional evidence of core competencies and placement activities, in line with the ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist Professional Standards;

There are no textbooks for this unit.
As part of placement preparation and engagement, there are required documents that need to be read including the 2026 EP Clinical Placement Handbook, along with other university and organisational processes. These will be discussed within this unit, and provided on Canvas or via email once specific placement allocations are completed.
There are required readings to support the workshops and online module learning activities. These will be specified clearly on Canvas.

Smartabase
All placement documentation must be submitted to Smartabase as the central platform for collating professional evidence of placement performance and requirements for accreditation.
Any documentation that may also be required to be submitted to Canvas to meet assessment requirement will be clearly detailed on Canvas in the assessment information, and discussed in Week 1 workshop.
Special assessment requirements
If a student does not complete their placement documentation for their placement allocations within the specified timeframes given, this can result in a grade of Non-Complete for Professional Evidence, and the student cannot pass this unit.
Depending on an individual student's placement allocation in this unit, students may have a withheld grade for this unit (WHW) at the end of Semester 1, for a period of winter semester. This grade is due to placement timing impacting their capacity to complete Assessment 3: Professional Evidence components. Their grade will be updated and finalised once winter placement Block 1 is completed and all documentation is submitted and assessed as finished.
Supplementary assessment
If a student does not pass a placement, based on the supervisor's assessment and moderation by the UC EP Clinical Placement Team, they will be required to undertake a supplementary placement. This may not be achievable within the timeframe of this unit, and may impact their enrolment in the next placement unit and their overall course progression.
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
UC students have to complete the Academic Integrity Module annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).

Learner engagement
There are only three (3) on campus workshops for this unit, along with three self-directed online learning modules. Students are expected to attend all three on-campus workshops. Online access will be provided to students if they are sick/symptomatic in any way.
Inclusion and engagement
Reasonable adjustment plans can be developed to support student learning on placements. Please read the earlier information under Academic Content 'Essential Information for Placements', and also refer to the Faculty of Health WIL Health and Impairment document on Canvas.
Participation requirements
Students must undertake a minimum of one (1) allocated placement experience as part of this unit.
Required IT skills
Students need to engage with Smartabase as the platform for recording their placement activities and collating their professional evidence of meeting placement requirements for accreditation.
Students need to engage with InPlace as the platform that is used to formally approve and manage their clincal placement hours and requirements.
Students will need to engage with a range of patient-management software and devices across their range of placements.
In-unit costs
All placement-related costs associated with uniforms, travel/transport, and accomodation for placement are the responsibility of the student.
Work placement, internships or practicums
This unit involves Placement, as a required course component to meet accreditation requirements of ESSA. Students must adhere to University policy during WIL activities, including the Student Conduct Rules , the WIL Policy and WIL Procedure, and the Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedure.
This unit has pre-placement requirements. Students must complete Pre-Place: Preparation for Work Integrated Learning prior to commencement of Placement.
