This unit commences the clinical skill development required in the practice of diagnostic radiography. In this unit students undertake a series of supervised medical radiation science clinical practice placements across the year of the course as well as undertaking laboratory simulation. Clinical placements provide the opportunity for students to develop and build safe clinical skills in a supervised environment and to become familiar with the patient care activities. In this unit students will also develop critical evaluation and reflective practice skills. Students are required to pass the placement and related competency tasks to successfully complete this unit.
1. Under direct supervision, plan, safely perform and critically evaluate routine non-complex radiographic examinations, including a range of low-level trauma and paediatric examinations;

3. Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, critically reflecting on examination outcomes and maintaining safe, respectful and effective care to all patients; and
4. Adapt knowledge and skill in diverse contexts, applying radiographic approaches appropriate to patient presentations, recognising and responding to deteriorating patients and undertake action to ensure appropriate management.
