This unit continues to develop students' knowledge in clinical radiographic techniques and examinations used in diagnostic radiography. Students will further develop their knowledge and safe skills in the techniques and protocols required across the range of examinations used in diagnostic radiography. Students will also further develop safe clinical practices in additional techniques, protocols and clinical requirements of paediatric examinations. Students are required to pass each placement and related competency tasks to successfully complete this unit.
1. Under direct supervision, plan, safely perform and critically evaluate routine and complex radiographic examinations;
2. Practice in an advancing ethical, professional and culturally safe manner, applying radiation safety principles and legal standards in the clinical setting;
3. Demonstrate advanced interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills applicable to the practice of diagnostic radiography, with specialist critical reflection upon examination outcomes and maintaining safe, respectful and effective care to all patients;
4. Reflect on the social and cultural determinants of health and their impact on the practice of medical imaging and their impact more broadly within the Australian healthcare system; and
5. Adapt advanced knowledge and skill in diverse contexts, applying specialist radiographic approaches appropriate to patient presentations, recognising and responding to deteriorating patients and undertake action to ensure appropriate management.
