The last of six nursing work integrated learning units, this Capstone unit is an opportunity for nursing students to consolidate their understanding of and demonstrate their ability to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse standards for practice. Students will shape their own professional identity as they transition to registered nurse and prepare for the registered nurse expectations of providing timely, holistic, culturally safe care while managing multiple priorities, complex work environments and healthcare relationships, and leadership and delegation of care within teams.
1. Communicate effectively with people, carers and families receiving care and collaborate purposefully and respectfully with colleagues and interprofessional teams;
2. Apply a systematic approach to the provision of person-centred nursing care to a group of individuals underpinned by sound clinical reasoning;
3. Utilise contemporary research evidence and health technologies to promote health and wellbeing and to provide person-centred care;
4. Apply empathetic and culturally safe inclusive care approaches to engage therapeutically and achieve positive health outcomes for all;
5. Practice nursing within the legal and ethical requirements that govern healthcare practice and apply clinical governance approaches to promote a safety culture;
6. Demonstrate a professional attitude to nursing care and readiness to transition to the role of registered nurse as part of a healthcare team; and
7. Demonstrate expected level of understanding and clinical performance commensurate with the scope of practice for Integrating Nursing Concepts 6 (Capstone) and NMBA Registered Nurse standards for practice as a novice nurse.
