Students will apply their learning in simulated or real-world contexts, develop employability skills and strengthen the disciplinary skills and knowledge needed to contribute to and excel in their professions. Authentic learning experiences will be tailored to disciplines and will include specialist skills training, individual or team projects, simulated workplace experiences, industry collaborations, competitions or other industry-engaged learning experiences.
Learning outcomesOn successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Reflect on and analyse professional ethical codes, standards of conduct and legal parameters as practised in the workplace and in professional settings;
2. Develop and critique the technical and professional skills necessary for contemporary practice in their fields and in workplaces; and
3. Practice the principles of collaboration to achieve effective and innovative outcomes in real or simulated professional contexts.

PrerequisitesMust be enrolled in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communication and Media, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Creative Industries or Bachelor of Digital Design programs.
Must have passed 24 credits points in the course AND one of the following units:

Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
Students will submit the assessment items for the 2 modules to which they have been allocated.
The assessment items for each module are worth 50% of the total marks for the unit.
Students must complete all of the assessment items assigned to them in order to pass the unit.

To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Students should plan to participate fully in classes in order to achieve a successful outcome.
This unit is an alternative to an internship, where professionalism and attendance are non-negotiable, and is considered equivalent for the purposes of degree requirements for Arts and Communications students. Each module consists of practical skills workshops. As such, assessment items will include tasks undertaken in class and instruction in technical systems and processes essential for the completion of assessment.
Participation in the Performance & Presentation module is fully online. Other modules are on-campus.

This unit involves work integrated learning: Simulation/WIL Project. Students must adhere to University policy during WIL activities, including the Student Conduct Rules 2018, the WIL Policy and WIL Procedure, and the Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedure.
