Wayne Applebee

Wayne Applebee, UC CIRI CommitteeWayne Applebee is a Kamilori Elder who currently provides academic training in Social Sciences, Justice Studies and Law at the University of Canberra. Wayne also works as a Sessional Lecturer for Indigenous Studies (he was a former convener of Indigenous units at UC), and is currently doing his PhD looking at Aboriginal people's use of the Internet (paper titled "Strange Estrangement")

Wayne is heavily involved in the Indigenous community and interested, and actively involved, in solving social justice and law issues as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

  • Panel member of Galambany Circle Sentencing Court
  • Cultural consultant
  • He conducts Indigenous ceremonies
  • Works with people that are considered at risk of entering judicial system
  • Conducts assessments for people about to enter the judicial process
  • Works in community development business education and administration
  • He undertakes social work and counselling
  • He was a former union official
  • He has managed Aboriginal sporting organisations
