Study in Australia's political heartland

Study in the heartland of Australian politics and set yourself up for a career that shapes public policy, drives change and supports the community.

At the University of Canberra, our degrees in Politics and International Relations and Social and Economic Policy give you the practical skills and policy insight to thrive in government and beyond. Whether you're passionate about public service, economics, diplomacy or social justice, get ready to create meaningful change.

Hands-on learning for government careers

From foreign affairs and counterterrorism to public finance and social reform, you’ll explore the real issues facing governments today. Learn how decisions are made, policies are developed and change is delivered, all while gaining practical experience through internships, industry projects, and professional placements.

With built-in opportunities to connect with government departments, think tanks and civil society organisations, you’ll graduate confident and career-ready.

More than a piece of paper

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a core component of all Government courses at UC, allowing you to gain professional experience, build your network and gain a comprehensive understanding of business and government relations, so you can hit the ground running when you graduate.

UC’s Bachelor of Politics and International Relations and Bachelor of Social and Economic Policy offer a range of internships, that help give you a better understanding of business and government practice. Step out of the classroom and into the real-world with approximately 75 hours of practical experience.

Pathways to Politics for Women

Our Pathways to Politics for Women Program is a proudly non-partisan initiative that aims to change the face of politics by equipping women with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and networks they need to run for elected office and thrive as political leaders. There are no fees to participate in this program.

Applications for 2025 have now closed. Applications for 2026 will open in early 2026.
