Postgraduate

A stellar career starts with you

Realise your full potential with a higher qualification

Main

Postgraduate study is the perfect way to progress your career and fire-up your earning potential. If you’ve already completed an undergraduate degree or have been in the workforce for some time, further specialised study at the postgraduate level will give you a competitive edge.

Whether you’re looking to upgrade your professional qualifications, deepen your knowledge in a specialist area or continue pursuing a passion, a postgraduate degree opens up new ideas and ways of thinking, and gives you access to a whole new network. On average, UC graduates with postgraduate degrees earn up to 26% more than those with an undergraduate degree.*

Balancing study with your lifestyle

We know that starting university study is a big commitment, but one with life-changing rewards. If it’s been some time since you’ve studied, or if you’re feeling unsure about how you’re going to balance your classes, assignments and study time with your work, family and social commitments, we’re here to help.

Flexible learning

We have flexible learning options so you can study in-person or online, which will help if coming onto campus regularly doesn’t suit you.

Part-time study

If full-time study is too much to handle at any point during your degree, you can change to part-time study.

Study when it suits you

When it’s time to put your timetable together there are lots of options, so you can choose lectures, tutorials and workshops at the time of day that suits you. Most lectures are also available online.

Entry requirements

Main

You may not need a bachelor's degree to be eligible for postgraduate study. We'll consider both your industry and academic experience when assessing your application.

Complete your degree in stages

Complete your postgraduate research degree in stages

Main

If you haven't studied for a while or are worried about juggling life, work and postgraduate study, you don’t have to commit to a full master’s degree initially.

Many of our postgraduate degrees are structured to create a study pathway with flexible starting and finishing points in three stages, meaning you can earn one of three qualifications.

Graduate certificate

Six months full time

A graduate certificate is the first stage of postgraduate study and takes around six months to complete full time (or the part-time equivalent).

Graduate diploma

One year full time

A graduate diploma is the second stage of postgraduate study, taking one year full time to complete (or the part-time equivalent), or six months if you’ve already studied a graduate certificate.

Master degree by coursework

1.5 to two years full time

A full master’s degree takes around one-and-a-half to two years of full-time study (or the part-time equivalent), or six months if you’ve already completed a graduate certificate and graduate diploma.

Credit transfer

Credit transfer

Main

If you've previously completed study at university, TAFE or another registered training provider, you may be eligible for credit towards your courses, allowing you to complete your studies sooner.

Consider your study costs

Money matters

Main

Understanding the costs of studying a degree is an important part of getting prepared for university. There are lots of outlays to consider, but it doesn’t mean that university is unaffordable.

As a domestic student, you’re eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place in all undergraduate and some postgraduate courses. You may also be eligible for a government HELP loan, which allows you to defer your remaining course fees and pay later through the income tax system.

"I decided to study postgrad because I was looking for career progression and personal growth. The flexibility and delivery format were things that sold me on UC."
