Greetings from UC

Renee Murphy, Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing

If you were on campus right now, you’d hear suitcases rolling, laughter bouncing between buildings and plenty of excited questions. Where’s the best coffee. How do I meet people. Are there really kangaroos on campus. O Week is almost here, and with toga parties, speed friending and relaxed social events on the horizon, UC is starting to buzz.

We’re delighted to be welcoming a strong intake of international students this semester, made possible through the trust and conversations you have with students long before they arrive. That work is felt from the moment they step onto campus.

As we look to 2026, our word for the year is care. Care defines how we work with our agent partners and how we support our students. It means honest conversations, thoughtful advice and shared responsibility for student outcomes. It also reflects our commitment to students, to prepare them well and support them to achieve their academic goals from day one.

In February, we’re looking forward to travelling to India to meet many of our education partners in person, alongside the ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr.

Thank you for your partnership. We’re excited for the semester ahead.

UC Orientation Week (O‑Week) for Sem 1 2026 is just around the corner! To support your students’ transition, we’ve summarised the key steps they can follow before, during, and after O‑Week.

    Before O‑Week: Steps to prepare

    Organise your essentials:

    • Backpack: Choose a comfortable backpack to carry your daily necessities.
    • Water bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially during outdoor events.
    • Sunscreen: Protect your skin from the sun during daytime activities.
    • Notetaking tools: For example, a notebook, pen, tablet, or laptop.
    • Student ID and documents: Keep your identification and any required documents handy.

    Review the O‑Week schedule:

    • Access the official UC Orientation page to familiarise yourself.
    • Check out planned social events and workshops, and make sure to register beforehand. Your new bestie could be one speed‑friending event away!

    Set up your UC accounts:

    • Log into your myUC account to access your orientation checklist and ensure all admin tasks are completed.

    During O‑Week

    Participate in events:

    •  Attend social and academic sessions to gain an understanding of university life. The more you know, the less scary it will feel!
    • Engage in workshops and information sessions to equip yourself with the necessary skills and knowledge.

    Adopt an open mindset:

    • Be open to meeting new people; introduce yourself to fellow students and staff. If you’re feeling nervous, don’t worry, everyone else is too!
    • Join clubs and societies that align with your interests to build a community.

    Explore campus facilities:

    • Get to know key locations such as the library, student support services, and recreational areas.
    • Take advantage of campus tours to better navigate your new environment.

    After O‑Week

Follow up with clubs and societies:

    • Join social media groups of the clubs you registered for to stay informed about upcoming events and meetings.
    • Attend meetups or gatherings—it’s a great way to make friends and create a sense of belonging.

    Maintain new connections:

    • Reach out to new acquaintances; consider organising study groups or casual friend dates like coffee outings. If you’re new to Canberra, this is a great opportunity to explore.
    • Stay connected through social media or messaging platforms to keep communication lines open.

    Reflect and plan:

    • Reflect on your experiences during O‑Week to identify areas where you may need further support.
    • Set personal and academic goals for the semester—it’s a great way to stay motivated.

We’ve recently received questions from several partners about whether applications for UC courses delivered at our Sydney Hills or Queensland campuses should be directed to those locations.

To clarify, all applications for UC courses—no matter which campus delivers the program—must be submitted through the main UC Bruce campus administration. Centralising this process ensures consistency, accuracy, and a smooth experience for both you and your students.

The rule is simple: apply the same way every time, through the UC Bruce campus. This unified approach helps us maintain high service standards and streamline application management across all teaching locations.

Planning ahead for your students? UC’s 2026 accommodation rates are now available, with weekly options starting from $210.50.

Our modern, self‑catered residences provide a convenient, supportive, and community‑focused living environment—ideal for students who want to make the most of their on‑campus experience. With a variety of room types and locations to choose from, students can find a home that suits their lifestyle, budget, and study needs.
