About the course

Architecture is a creative practice. The ways and means of generating and visualising architectural forms are fundamental to the architect’s skillset. This short course will explore the use of fun and creative design techniques in Architecture. At the completion of the course, participating students will have collectively authored a unique architectural proposal created and visualised through a combination of analogue skills and techniques.

What you'll learn:

  • a better understanding of what the first year of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture is like,
  • verbal presentation skills,
  • drawing skills,
  • modelling skills.

Dr Mike Louw

Dr Mike Louw

Senior Lecturer, Architecture

Michael Louw [Mike] is a Senior Lecturer in architecture at the University of Canberra’s School of Design and the Built Environment. Prior to this, he taught full-time at the University of Cape Town for ten years, following twelve years in practice in South Africa and the United Kingdom. He holds a BArch degree from the University of Pretoria, an MPhil degree in Sustainable Development Planning and Management from the University of Stellenbosch and a PhD in Architecture from the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on architectural technology, adaptation, design-build practice, and sustainable material use.

Dr Sally Farrah

Dr Sally Farrah

Lecturer, Architecture

Sally Farrah is a Lecturer (Architecture) in the School of Design and the Built Environment at the University of Canberra (UC). Her research interests include pre-digital modes of architectural production, focusing on parallel projection, and the model. Emerging research directions include the architectural and urban heritage of Canberra and Australia, and testing and research into material and prototyping possibilities in the age of decarbonisation. Alongside traditional research, Sally has been collaborating with colleagues, government, arts, and industry partners, in the production of exhibitions and events.

Dr Rahmatollah Amirjani

Dr Rahmatollah Amirjani

Lecturer, Architecture

Rahmatollah AMIRJANI [ROM] is a Lecturer in Architecture at the School of Design and Built Environment, University of Canberra, Australia. His research interest includes contemporary historiographies of modern architecture, specifically focusing on the question of social housing. Investigating the dichotomy between tradition and modernity, his publications also address recent movements in the provision of affordable housing and the effects of inappropriate housing policies/designs on communities.

Dr Milica Muminovic

Dr Milica Muminovic

Senior Lecturer, Architecture

Milica Muminovic is a Senior Lecturer in architecture at the University of Canberra’s School of Design and the Built Environment. Her research focuses on capturing and understanding the complex aspects of the built environment transformations that maintain place identities. Taking a case study approach, coupled with lived experience from Europe to Southeast Asia, with a focus on Japan and interdisciplinary collaboration, she aims to understand ways of mapping slippery and hard to measure aspects of the built environment. Currently, Milica is exploring qualitative mapping of spaces in Canberra and testing subjectivity as a tool for understanding the urban milieu.

Dr Michael Jasper

Dr Michael Jasper

Professor of Architecture

Michael Jasper is an architect, educator, and scholar based in Australia. He is currently Professor of Architecture at the University of Canberra where he teaches in the major projects studio, practice, history/theory, and advanced architectural analysis streams.
