Careers advisors congregate on campus

24 July 2014: Careers advisors from around the region attended the University of Canberra's annual careers advisor information session to find out what the University has to offer high school and college students.

Held at the INSPIRE centre, the session provided over 30 career advisors from senior secondary colleges in ACT and NSW high schools with the latest information regarding courses, admissions and pathways into the University.

"This event is an invaluable opportunity for careers advisors to engage with University staff from each area and for University staff to update, advise and showcase the opportunities and facilities at the University of Canberra," domestic student recruitment school liaison officer, Emma Burns, said.

A new format was introduced to the event this year, adding a Q&A session for careers advisors and a tour of campus that included the work integrated learning focused facilities such as the media studios, forensic labs, clinical training labs for nursing and midwifery and the e-Court. 

"The careers advisors enjoyed the changes to the format, as they could be updated while also benefit from asking questions in the Q&A session. Most of all they relished the opportunity to tour the campus and work integrated learning sites," Ms Burns said.

The event's main goal is to help benefit prospective students of the University, as they will be able to receive the newest information from their careers advisors on what the University has to offer.

"One careers advisor commented that they really enjoyed the day and that it gave very valuable information to pass on to students," Ms Burns said.

Next year there are plans to extend the session to a full-day event and continue the Q&A sessions and campus tour.
