Education
Experience the Canberra factor in your studies: Education where you learn straight from the source at the heart of the nation’s decisions in business, government and law.
The location of Canberra in Australia’s capital offers a unique advantage to our students with degrees shaped by government leaders and industry experts. With strong ties to the Australian Public Service and the ACT government, business and not-for-profits, students gain practical experience, real connections and a competitive edge.
The interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty of Business, Government and Law offers a nurturing and stimulating environment that harnesses the diverse expertise of over 100 active staff members across our three schools and dedicated research centres. This enhances the productivity and contribution of the university to the Australian Capital Territory, Australia and beyond.
The Faculty of Business, Government and Law’s mission of Working with governments and for society is shaped by the voices of our students, professional partners, and community stakeholders. We recognise these groups as essential contributors to our educational mission. This ensures our programs address mission-critical issues and support informed decision-making across business, government, and society.
Every unit in our degrees has some aspect of working with governments and for society. Whether it be a role-play simulation of a government department or a case study analysis where students apply theoretical frameworks to real-world policy challenges, our students get more than a piece of paper.
The faculty education priorities that flow from this crucial mission are:
- Designing learning experiences that are up close and personal – ensuring our students are cared for both in and outside of the classroom, and in a way that leverages the scale of BGL.
- Ensuring cutting-edge curriculum that is research-led – guaranteeing our educational offerings are the most up-to-date and informed by the knowledge developed by our world-class researchers.
- Creating community in Canberra and beyond – joining with our domestic and international students to assist them throughout their lifelong learning journey.
- Integrating the latest technology approaches with personalised approaches – advancing our course offerings for students, employers and societies by leveraging Generative AI and learning how to use these technologies ethically while retaining the personal touch.
- Advancing equity and removing obstacles – meeting our students where they are at to ensure enhanced access to our education offerings, and in a way that responds to the needs and circumstances of our students. An emphasis on tertiary harmonisation is a foundational principle.
By advancing a culture of community through our education offerings, the Faculty of Business, Government and Law represents a vital hub within the University of Canberra. Our mission is to prepare students to shape policy, improve organisational practices, and contribute to business and institutions that support a more just, sustainable, and well-governed society. Our teaching directly supports the University's mission of working together to empower, connect, and share knowledge with our people, culture, and places.
