In this unit students consider the fundamental purposes and principles of research, and in particular focus upon the distinctive characteristics and problems of research in the social sciences. Selected research studies will be critically evaluated. Each student also presents a research proposal.
1. Critically evaluate published research, including research based on statistical analysis, using criteria accepted in the social sciences;
2. Make an informed choice of research methods appropriate to the execution of a social science research project; and
3. Present and justify a research proposal.
Learning outcomes

Prerequisites
