This unit is designed to develop a pre-service teacher's pedagogical content knowledge for Humanities and Social Sciences teaching. The key elements of pedagogy and planning for diverse learners are examined and applied to the teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences. Pre-service teachers will critically address how these elements can then be combined into effective classroom practice for addressing the requirements and philosophy of Humanities and Social Sciences. This unit is the first of two units dealing with Secondary Humanities and Social Sciences PCK which include a professional experience placement. In this unit students will engage in a series of school-based clinical teaching workshops contributing a cumulative total of 3 days' professional experience as well as a 'block' placement of 15 days in a Secondary School providing the opportunity for pre-service teachers to demonstrate the ability to plan and teach for a sustained period of time consolidating their teaching skills.

5. Develop as professionals that are knowledgeable, skillful, flexible and compassionate in their practice and who are guided by a sense of social and ethical responsibility.

Must have passed 36 credit points including 9906 Secondary Humanities & Social Sciences PCK 1 AND 9919 The Educational Workplace AND 10425 Curriculum - Planning, Assessing & Reporting.Corequisites
