This unit introduces students to the fundamental principles of computer music, including arranging and composing in a range of styles from classical to popular. It introduces a range of specific techniques including creating and editing a MIDI file, basic orchestration and audio recording using Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software.
1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software;
2. Write and arrange their own music compositions using music software;
3. Understand how to incorporate General MIDI (GM) melodic and percussive voices;
4. Record audio in synch with MIDI files; and
5. Critically reflect on their own creative choices and techniques and those of their peers.
