This unit explores the variety of uses and contexts for design briefs in the Visual Arts, from public art design to illustration and commissioned work. The unit involves analysis of the context and key requirements of design briefs. It engages in critical thinking, innovative solutions and the development of personal concepts in response to design briefs.
Students will learn to interpret, critically discuss and to match to the requirements of a design brief.

A sound understanding of this subject will allow the student to respond to professional and commercial opportunities across the Visual Arts sector


Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Analyse the context and key requirements of design briefs;

2. Interpret and critically discuss design briefs;
3. Select and develop media and techniques to match requirements of brief and personal concepts;
4. Plan and create resolved work/s that reflects critical thinking, innovative solutions and personal concepts in response to a design brief and;
5. Employ communication skills in an academic and/or creative context.

Participation requirements

Students are expected to attend and actively participate in all lectures, and tutorials. If a student misses lectures or workshops, regardless of reason, it may negatively impact upon their final assessment, due to them having missed important educational information and material. Announcements that are made at lectures, and via class email, are deemed to be made to the whole group.

Students require a general computing skills in applications such as word, powerpoint and basic internet search capability.
