This unit complements the skills and knowledge developed in Applied Techniques in 2D Rendering. The unit involves the further application of media techniques and processes while developing the conceptual and cultural understanding of art works presented in series. It explores the conceptual shifts in historical and contemporary practice regarding 2D works in series.
Students will be able to use drawing, painting and print-making processes to explore genres of visual arts practice and works in series. Students will learn to critique genres and develop working processes synthesizing ideas, media and techniques.
The subject develops the grounding for sustained 2D media practice in the Visual Arts.
1. Use drawing, painting and print-making processes to explore genres of practice and works in series;
2. Critique genres and working processes to synthesize ideas, media and techniques;
3. Explain genres and conceptual shifts in historical and contemporary practice;
4. Create a series of resolved works in 2D Media that reflect critical thinking and innovative solutions to individual concerns; and
5. Employ written communication skills to reflect on experiences and lessons learned.

Participation requirements
Students are expected to attend and actively participate in all lectures, and workshops. If a student misses lectures or workshops, regardless of reason, it may negatively impact upon their final assessment, due to them having missed important educational information and material. Announcements that are made at lectures, and via class email, are deemed to be made to the whole group.
