This unit introduces students to the theories, research, and applications of health psychology. The unit emphasises the interaction between biological, psychological, and socio-cultural factors in health and illness, and discusses theory, research, and applications concerning health service delivery and use, adoption of healthy and unhealthy behaviours, and adaptation to chronic and life-threatening illness.
1. Demonstrate understanding of the interaction between biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors in the causation, maintenance, and management of health and illness;
2. Explain the basic principles, theories and methodologies of health psychology; and
3. Apply this knowledge to a range of real-world contexts.
