Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Describe how to effectively manage human capital and properly assess knowledge, skills, and abilities to find valuable resources (people);
2. Define and conduct a job analysis and discuss the validity of an analysis in support of other key human capital functions;
3. Identify and apply concepts associated with employee safety and health in support of effectively managing human capital;
4. Create strategies to support the training and development of human capital;
5. Define and apply the concepts of labour and employee relations, clearly defining the relationship between the employer and employee;
6. Identify ethical issues facing HR managers today explaining how HR can help to build an ethical organisation; and
7. Demonstrate why strategic resource planning is necessary to attract, recruit, and retain valuable human capital.
Skills development
The purpose of the unit ‘Principles of Human Resource Management’ is to provide a general overview of the concepts and applications of many sections of HR. The main focus of the unit will be the employee life cycle. The components of the employee life cycle will cover all aspects of the unit which are also dependent on each other. The main components of the employee life cycle are historical background of HR, recruitment, selection, hiring, orientation, performance management, legal and financial obligations of HR and Global HR. All these components will be studied in detail.
