Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Identify sources of law;
2. Differentiate litigation from methods of alternative dispute resolution, and discuss the process of each;
3. List the elements of the major torts and the essential elements of a valid contract;
4. Summarise the remedies available for breach of contract;
5. Distinguish between real and personal property;
6. Identify the requirements to hold various rights under intellectual property laws;
7. Analyse the impact of the digital era on intellectual property rights;
8. Identify laws that generally regulate the employer-employee relationship;
9. Identify criminal acts related to the business world;
10. Define and identify examples of white collar crime;
11. Identify the major ethical concerns and major laws regulating business today; and
12. Analyse case studies that illustrate ethical dilemmas in business ethics

The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Learner engagement
This is an online unit in which students are able to complete some work at their own pace. Rather than attending lectures and tutorials, your working hours in this unit will be dedicated to the readings, watching videos linked to the Moodle site and completing the Case Studies and other assessment items.
