This unit will explore marketing concepts as they relate to sport at all levels: elite, professional, and grassroots. It will inspect various sport markets, strategies for marketing, market research, planning marketing objectives and carrying out market research for a sport organisation.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

1. Situate the role of marketing within contemporary sport organisations
2. Appreciate the central role of market research and segmentation principles in understanding participants and spectators as consumers
3. Critically analyse relevant marketing frameworks, concepts and practises available to contemporary sport organisations;
4. Design and conduct market research to guide strategic sport marketing; and
5. Develop and present appropriate marketing strategies to strategically direct sports marketing efforts based on market research

Participation requirements

Students enrolled on-campus in Bruce are expected to attend lectures and tutorials.

Student enrolled in the online unit are expected to review the ECHO360 recordings of lectues and participant in the online tutorials.

Students will be required to collect market research data outside of class time. Students may wish to use social media to collect this data.
