The aim of this unit is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to identify a market opportunity and develop a viable business concept. The unit will provide health professionals with an understanding of the challenges involved in enterprise development and support them to develop strategies for success.
1. investigate the concept of small business development and discuss its application to the evolution of an organisation from market opportunity to viable business;
2. critically evaluate the role of management in creating an environment that will foster the development of entrepreneurial ideas and reward innovation;
3. investigate and reflect on the challenges involved in starting and managing a small business;
4. critically evaluate the development processes required by an evolving organisation to be successful in a market;
5. examine the dimensions of managing business growth which creates value for an organisation;
6. independently discriminate between small business ownership options, whether new or acquired.
Learning outcomes
