The aim of this unit is to introduce students to apply an occupational therapy process when working with individuals. These include learning basic assessments and interventions related to self-care, productivity and leisure. Through a case based format, students will learn how impairments in body structure and function influence occupational performance and participation. Students will have an opportunity to adopt an occupational perspective to the management of these impairments. This unit is co-taught with 10301 Occupational Therapy Toolbox 1.
1. Understand and justify the role of the occupational therapist in the assessment and provision of occupational therapy services for people with impairments;
2. Apply an occupational therapy process to address occupational performance challenges to individuals with impairments;
3. Exercise emerging practice reasoning in the provision of occupational therapy services to people with impairments; and
4. Demonstrate essential practice skills (e.g. observation, measurement, communication and documentation).
