Special assessment requirements
Extension Procedure - Nursing - 2018
Grounds for applying for an extension
The onus rests on students to comply with timelines for completing and submitting assessments, and this is part of the good management and performance skills we are seeking to develop in students through the educational process. Lecturers also have a responsibility to ensure equity and fairness to the majority of students who submit their assessments on time.
For these reasons, you need to establish genuine circumstances for an extension to be granted. You will need to supply documentary evidence to establish the genuine nature of your circumstances.
Please note: Extensions of more than 7 days will not generally be granted unless there are extenuating circumstances. See * below.
Process for applying for an extension:
Students are advised to liaise directly with their Unit Convenor for requests for extension. Requests for extension should be emailed to the Unit Convenor or approved delegate, although there may be circumstances where Inclusion & Engagement will liaise on behalf of the students.
Requests for extensions should be on the attached Assignment Extension Application form and submitted at least 5 days prior to the submission date.
The Unit Convenor, or approved delegate will inform the student of the outcome of their request as per Faculty procedures. Where the Unit Convenor, or approved delegate does not approve the assignment extension request, the student may seek consulation with Inclusion & Engagement. If considered appropriate, Inclusion & Engagement will liaise with the relevant Academic staff member, following consultation with the student.

Supplementary assessment
There will be no supplementary exams offered to students that do not obtain an overall aggregate mark of 50%.
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
UC students have to complete the Academic Integrity Module annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).
UC uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.
Information is provided in the Academic Integrity Policy, Academic Integrity Procedure, and University of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023. For further advice, visit Study Skills.
Learner engagement
This unit includes 7 teaching weeks, a unit review week and an exam period. Based on the workload above of 150 hours for a 3 credit point unit, student should anticipate a commitment of approximately 18 hours per week for this unit.
Please note, content for Weeks 5 & 6 will be available from O week. Students are encouraged to commence their study prior to the commencement of face-to-face teaching in Week 5.
Inclusion and engagement
Students who need reasonable adjustment arrangements for the mid-term exam or final exam must register with Inclusion and Welfare and inform the unit convenor as soon as possible so the necessary arrangements can be made.
Participation requirements
It is highly recommended that students participate in all learning opportunities. Assessment items are closely linked to the weekly learning objectives . Tutorials are not compulsory however, attendance will allow students to consolidate learning, engage in discussion and access academic staff for support. Tutorials are the final point of learning for the weekly content, as such it is expected that students come prepared to tutorials by:
- listening to the recorded lecture
- sourcing and reading relevant material related to the weekly content (textbook and peer-reviewed, evidence-based sources)
- completing the pre-tutorial activities
- identifying gaps in learning that can be addressed in tutorials with support from a tutor and peers
- engage in tutorial activities.
