Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit students will:1. Understand the ethical and legal issues, and be able to demonstrate application of this knowledge in professional practice;

Additional Submission Information
Extensions must be requested prior to the due date for submission.
Extensions are given at the discretion of the Unit Convenor, who reviews each situation in light of the documentary evidence provided.
Students are required to monitor their University of Canberra student email account regarding approval or rejection of the extension request.
Technology related reasons cannot be used to support/justify a late submission.
Academic integrity

Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Question/Answer Sessions and Moderation of Assessment
Question & Answer Sessions
Question and Answer sessions (Q&A sessions) are scheduled during the semester to provide students support in completing assessment items. (Refer to the UCLearn (Canvas) site for the unit for dates and times). By attending these sessions, students will have the opportunity to:
- Clarify the requirements of the assessment item
- Understand the marking rubric
- Receive feedback regarding the general structure of their intended response.
Teaching staff will not review drafts or provide specific feedback on the content of student work.
Clarification regarding assessment tasks can also be obtained by posting on the UCLearn (Canvas) discussion boards. Questions raised on discussion boards after 5pm on the Wednesday before the assessment due date might not be responded to by teaching staff.
Staff will not respond to questions regarding assessment items raised by email.
Moderation of assessment
Moderation of assessment items will be conducted consistent with the Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedures. Information will be available on Canvas.
Participation requirements
Students are expected to attend and participate in all the activities across the unit. It is essential that students actively participate in all face to face workshops Such participation is required by students in order to have the opportunity to meet all of the Australian occupational therapy competency standards. Therefore, except in the case of extenuating circumstances, 100% attendance and engagement at the workshops is expected. It is also expected that if students are unable to meet these participation requirements they inform the Unit Convener as soon as practical, by email.
Required IT skills
The unit uses the online learning platform UCLearn (also known as Canvas) to provide students with access to readings, learning activities, and communication about the unit. It is expected that students will have basic word processing skills, an ability to use library databases to search for journal articles, an ability to search for and use publicly available electronic information on the internet, and to regularly access UCLearn (Canvas) and their University of Canberra student email account.
Lecturers will communicate with students via their University of Canberra student email account and announcements on Canvas. It is the students' responsiblity to regularly check their University of Canberra student email and UC Learn (Canvas) for messages, information and instructions.
Assessment 1 requires students to complete free online training available through the internet.
Assessment 2 requires students to use the VoiceThread platform. Students will be given information on how to access and use the VoiceThread platform.

Submission of assessments: All written assessments must be submitted via UCLearn (Canvas). Submission details and the submission page will be available on the UCLearn (Canvas) site in ASSIGNMENTS.
You must keep a copy of all your assignments.
Unless otherwise advised in the assessment instructions, written assessment pieces must conform to the following requirements:
- Submitted as a Microsoft Word document not PDF.
- Font and font size: Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial: 12 pt
- Line spacing: double.
- Headings: bold, maximimum size 16 pt.
- Margins: no less than 1.54cm on all sides
- Page numbers: at bottom right hand corner of footer
- Student identification number: (number only) at top right hand corner of header.
- Referencing: APA 7th edition style. A guide to this referencing style can be found on the University of Canberra library website.
- Word limit, time limit or page limit: will be specified in the detailed assessment instructions on UCLearn (Canvas). The examiner will stop reading, watching or listening when the word limit, time limit or page limit is reached. Content beyond the limit will not be assessed.
In the course of studying occupational therapy, students may be exposed to practice scenarios and situations that may be stressful.
