Neurological Interventions 1 (8982.3)

This unit covers the theoretical and practical assessment of normal and abnormal functional movement including gait, posture, bed transfers and upper limb function in the context of brain injury. The roles of cognitive, sensory and environmental factors will be explored. Motor control theory will be applied to movement and rehabilitation. Various approaches to neurological rehabilitation will be compared. Physiotherapy management of impairments associated with common neurological conditions will be introduced.

This unit is co-taught with unit 6452 Neurological Interventions 1 PG.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply assessment strategies and outcome measures to support physiotherapy management for people with common neurological conditions;
2. Interpret assessment and measurement findings using evidence-informed reasoning to guide physiotherapy intervention planning;
3. Deliver safe and effective physiotherapy interventions for people with common neurological conditions;
4. Apply relevant evidence and knowledge to inform and improve physiotherapy practices; and
5. Adapt communication and professional behaviours to support culturally safe, person-centred, and collaborative care in neurological physiotherapy.
