This unit will introduce fundamental mathematical methods in commerce and economics, such as matrices and calculus. This mathematics is motivated by being applied to finance, economics and data-fitting. Specific models in finance (such as valuation of cash-flow steams, and annuities) and in economics (such as input-output model) will be developed. Students will learn how to implement certain of these models using spread-sheets.
This unit is co-taught with unit 7547 Business and Financial Mathematics.
1. demonstrate expertise with the underlying mathematical methods;
2. demonstrate competence with Excel functions' library;
